Chief Executive Officer, Special Libraries Association

The Honorable Janice R. Lachance is the 13th chief executive of the Special Libraries Association. A seasoned leader and communicator with more than 20 years experience in public service and governance, Janice is a collegial executive and team player with a concertmaster leadership style that inspires both allegiance and hard work. From 1997 to 2001, Janice was the Director (CEO) of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the federal government's independent human resources agency. Appointed to this position by President Bill Clinton and unanimously confirmed by a bi-partisan U.S. Senate, Janice provided policy and program leadership for 1.8 million federal employees.

Scott MooreScott Moore
Head of News & Information for the Yahoo! Media Group

As head of news and information for Yahoo!, Scott Moore oversees many of Yahoo!'s leading media properties, including Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports, Yahoo! Tech and Yahoo!'s Lifestyle initiatives. Moore joined Yahoo! from Microsoft Corporation's MSN division, where he served as general manager of the MSN programming group. In this capacity he managed editorial, design and product development for four publishing teams, including MSN Channels, MSNBC.com, MSN Video and MSN Autos. In addition Moore concurrently served as president of MSNBC.com, an Internet news joint venture of Microsoft and NBC Universal. While at Microsoft, Moore also founded MSN Video, one of the first advertising-supported video initiatives on the Internet. Prior to these roles, Moore served as publisher of Slate, the leading Internet magazine sold by Microsoft to the Washington Post. In this capacity Moore oversaw all functional areas including product development, brand, marketing, distribution, advertising sales, and business development. During his tenure Moore also worked with National Public Radio to create the national daily radio program Day to Day, a production of NPR West and Slate.

Tom AleyTom Aley

Prior to founding Generate, Tom was a Partner at Reed Elsevier Ventures, the venture arm of the $8 billion media company. He co-led investments in several companies including Inxight Software, Nextpage (exited to FAST) and iPhrase Technologies (exited to IBM). Prior to Reed, Tom was EVP at Stonepath Group, a VC firm, where he co-led the company's initial public offering, raising $60 million. Prior to Stonepath, Tom co-founded OneZero Media. While there, Tom served as EVP of Sales, growing sales from pre-revenue to $7m in two years. He negotiated the sale of the company to GT Interactive Software, creating $43 million in exit value, and a 5x return for investors. Prior to OneZero, Tom was a founding director at ZDNet, where he launched and managed the company's e-commerce business unit, Computershopper.com. This unit, one of the first PC online buying services, accounted for more than 40 percent of the advertising revenue of ZDNet, one of the largest and most profitable Internet properties at the time. Yves Auger is Director of Operations and Web Technologies at Transcontinental Media, North America's sixth-largest print media group and leading publisher of consumer magazines. His team is responsible for over 140 portals related to the organization's magazines and weekly and daily newspapers. He is also responsible for supporting Transcontinental's digital strategy for the creation of new products and services delivered on the organization's multi-channel platform. Previously, Mr. Auger was Regional Director for eCommerce Strategies at Bell Canada and also Regional Officer in charge of Bell Canada's intranets. Mr. Auger also occupied several positions for BCE Emergis eCommerce solutions Division.

Since co-founding Really Strategies Inc., Barry has served as president and CEO of the company. George Beckerman began his information industry career in 1981, providing strategic consulting and investment banking services to information, media and communications companies and to related technology and services companies. He joined Marlin & Associates in 2004. The firm's investment banking advisory and strategy consulting clientele in the digital information economy is world-wide, including North America, Europe, Asia/Oceana and Africa. George is also a company founder and a former operating executive. He is a co-founder of MarketResearch.com, Inc., a leading publisher and distributor of market research reports, and has held senior executive positions in the Washington Post Company's legislative information service business and in Thomson Financial. Earlier, he co-founded DIDS-co, one of the first geo-spatial software developers, was a partner in International Trade Advisory Services, an export promotion collaboration with Deloitte and the National Bank of Washington, and an executive co-founder of Federal Marketing Services, a research service.

Jean BedordJean Bedord
Senior Analyst, Shore Communications, Inc.

As a search analyst and consultant, Jean focuses on improving customer web findability for products developed by content producers and content technology companies, providing strategies for digital products, new markets and channels of distribution. She brings a background in search engine technologies and managing IT to the real world of implementation. She speaks at information industry conferences, and is widely quoted in leading business publications. Jean's experience extends over fifteen years in the online information industry, with eleven years at Dialog managing database products. Jean also teaches Online Searching for San Jose State University graduate School of Library and information Science. Frank BilottoFrank Bilotto
Vice President, Publishing and Digital Media; MuseGlobal, Inc.

Mr. Bilotto has an extensive background in the Internet, content and search marketplaces, and brings his sales, legal and content licensing expertise to the company. He came to MuseGlobal from Vivisimo where he introduced that company's clustering technology to online and Internet publishers and aggregators, as well as developed key relationships with library marketplace notables. Trained as a lawyer, Mr. Bilotto started his career as legal counsel to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then moved on to Thomson Dialog, as the senior director for content licensing, managing the intellectual property news and business information segments. Prior to joining Vivisimo, Bilotto was VP, business and legal affairs for Zoom Culture, a television production company specializing in reality TV. Mr. Bilotto is a frequent speaker at technology and e-content conferences. He currently serves as Secretary on the Executive Committee of ASIDIC. He is also an active member of the Software and Information Industry Association, and is on the steering committee for forthcoming conferences. Mr. Bilotto has a JD degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Simon BradstockSimon Bradstock
Vice President, Corporate Products; Dow Jones

Simon Bradstock has responsibility for the commercial success of the Factiva product suite within the Dow Jones Enterprise Media Group. This includes overseeing the definition, design, launch and ongoing enhancement of the products in the global marketplace. Previously, he was Director of Product Management for the Factiva SalesWorks products and capabilities targeted at sales professionals and had also been responsible for managing Factiva's core product program (before Factiva was acquired by Dow Jones), which included the commercial launch of new and enhanced capabilities on the Factiva platform. Prior to that, he was the Marketing Communications Director, responsible for planning and managing Factiva's global communications strategy including campaign management, advertising and public relations. When Mr. Bradstock was the Americas Marketing Director at Factiva, he was responsible for managing marketing campaigns, product inquiries and tradeshow and event planning in the Americas. Other experience includes positions with Reuters and McGraw Hill.

Bill Burger is Vice President of Marketing at Copyright Clearance Center. He has more than 20 years of experience in the publishing and information industry and is responsible for product marketing and development, branding and corporate communications. Previously, Bill was Senior Vice President of New Ventures for Rogers Medical Intelligence Solutions, Vice President of Content at iCopyright and Vice President of Content and Media Services at Infonautics Corp. Prior to that, he was Director of New Media Development and Educational Services for AT&T. Bill also has consulted for a number of information content companies directly, and as a Vice President and Senior Analyst at Outsell, Inc. Starting in 1981, he worked for 14 years at Newsweek magazine in New York, Tokyo and London, where he held the positions of Senior Writer, Senior Editor and European Economics Editor.

Jean-Paul Chauvet

Head of Nstein Technologies Sales Team, Jean-Paul Chauvet has more than 15 years of experience building partnerships and establishing strong relationships in the IT industry for e-publishing. Prior to joining Nstein, Mr. Chauvet was responsible for worldwide operational sales and marketing at IxiaSoft, the maker of the most deployed XML server worldwide. He has also worked as Director of Sales and Customer Service for North America and Asia for Questel-Orbit, a subsidiary of France Telecom, whose clients include 80% of the global 500 corporations. Levy Cohen has more than 20 years of experience in operations, software development and marketing in high-tech companies. He has founded several successful software companies. Prior to joining Collarity, Levy was CEO of RightOrder, a company that addressed fundamental challenges related to structured and unstructured data for enterprise applications. Levy was also CEO of Licom, a private company that founded and managed high-tech companies in Israel among them one of the early ISPs. Patrice wrote her first computer program when she was 15, and after a few years decided it wasn't for her. In early 1998, Patrice launched a website for Japanese craft collectors and aficionados, garnering praise from Oprah.com for an innovative online class. Cindy Hill is a former manager of SunLibrary, Sun Microsystems' worldwide information center. As part of Sun's Chief Technology Office and Sun Labs, her group was responsible for providing information services, resources and knowledge collaboration support throughout Sun. Prior to Sun, Cindy managed the information services at Failure Analysis Associates, Inc. (now Exponent, Inc.) where her staff and she provided in-depth research and information in the scientific, legal and medical disciplines. Jill is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Information Science, and holds a BA in International Politics & Foreign Service from Penn State. An SLA member since 1994, Jill has served as Leadership & Management Division Chair (2002-2004), and as a committee member on the Student and Academic Affairs Advisory Committee and the SLA Centennial Commission. The author of over twenty articles on marketing libraries and library services, knowledge management, competitive intelligence, and training the trainer, she is the co-recipient of the 2004 H.W. Wilson Award, which recognizes authors of outstanding articles published in Information Outlook®, SLA's monthly magazine. Jill and partner Cindy Powell authored "Information Centers that Innovate," a two-part article published in the January and March 2003 issues, which focused on the common experiences and situations of different libraries and provided practical and adaptable advice for information professionals in similar organizations.

Randy MarcinkoRandy Marcinko
Chief Executive Officer, Marcinko Enterprises

Randall Marcinko is the CEO of MEI (Marcinko Enterprises, Inc.), a California-based information consultancy that he founded in 1996. MEI assists publishers with the monetization of their electronic content, providing professional services in support of content licensing, sales, distribution, creation and indexing. Skilled negotiators design and establish content licensing strategy and execute deals on behalf of primary and secondary publishers with aggregators, syndicators, redistributors and specialty vendors within the information industry. Marcinko joined Nstein Technologies Inc. as its President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2002 and in January 2004 he became its President Emeritus. Mike Pickett serves as president and chief executive officer of Onvia. Previously, Pickett was chairman, CEO, and president of Merisel Inc. Pickett also spent 14 years at Deloitte & Touche, rising to partner-in-charge of the emerging businesses practice. He has been five-time winner of Computer Reseller News' award as one of the 25 most influential executives in the high technology industry. In his role as President and Chief Executive Officer, Tim Ramos has responsibility for Before the Call's strategic direction and operations. A veteran of the technology industry, Ramos previously held executive positions with IT services provider Cambridge Technology Partners, culminating in his role as executive vice president, Cambridge North America. In addition to managing North American operations totaling more than $500 million in revenue and 2,600 employees, he was an officer of the company and a board member of Cambridge Technology Capital Fund. Before joining Cambridge, Ramos was founder and chief executive officer of Ramos & Associates, Inc, which he grew to $25 million in five years, funded entirely from operating profits, and later sold to Cambridge. James F. Reeves, CPA, is currently Senior Vice President, New Product Development, for the Research and Guidance Group at Thomson Tax and Accounting. Since joining Thomson in 1988 to launch the PPC tax product line, Mr. Reeves has served in a wide variety of roles, including Executive Editor, Vice President, Strategic Development, Vice President, Product and Business Development, and Vice President and Publisher of Tax Publications. He is a coauthor of seven PPC practice guides and has authored and taught a number of continuing professional education seminars for practicing CPAs. Prior to joining PPC, Mr. Reeves worked for over 11 years in public accounting practice at both the national and local firm levels.

Chris came to Topix.net from Spoke Software, a business social networking company, where he was a co-founder and VP of marketing. Before Spoke, Chris was a Director of Marketing at AOL/Netscape for AOL Music, Netscape Search and Directory Products. Chris was a co-founder and VP of Marketing at NewHoo, and led the sale of the company to Netscape. After the acquisition, NewHoo was relaunched as the Open Directory Project at Netscape and became the world's largest human edited directory of the web, and is still used by companies like Google, Alexa and AOL. Previous to NewHoo, Chris held a variety of sales, marketing and management positions at Sun Microsystems. Chris graduated from the University of California at San Diego with degrees in Computer Science and Economics, where he was awarded the Michael J. Addison award for his senior thesis about the online information industry.

Brian VileBrian Vile
Vice President, Macrovision

Brian Vile is Vice President of Distribution Solutions. He is responsible for defining Macrovision’s digital distribution channel strategy. A software and technology industry veteran with ten years’ senior management and product strategy experience, he was previously responsible for Macrovision’s installation tools and the information publishing products. Mr. Vile led the due diligence, integration and management of the ZeroG and eMeta acquisitions. Prior to Macrovision, he was Vice President of Product Management at Information Resources, and held high-visibility roles at Hewlett Packard and Motorola. Mr. Vile has an MBA from Indiana University and a BS in Engineering from Lehigh University.

Valerie WilliamsonValerie Williamson
Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Electric Sheep Company

Valerie currently leads the Business Development efforts for The Electric Sheep Company. Valerie spent her formative business years working in the media, entertainment and events industries. Prior to ESC Valerie was the VP of Marketing and Business Development for OSTG (parent company of Slashdot and SourceForge.net), she also worked in the film industry at Orion Pictures back in the day, and was President of Interop Worldwide. Throughout her career, Williamson has led business, marketing, and sales strategy for leading media companies including OSTG, ZiffDavis Events/Key3Media, IDG Entertainment (GamePro Magazine and co-founder of the E3 tradeshow), and Orion Pictures.
